The UAE has achieved the status of the world’s second hardest-working country, with residents averaging 50.9 hours of work per week. This insight comes from a report by the communications agency duke+mir, which surveyed over 1,000 residents and incorporated global data from the International Labour Organization (ILO).
According to ILO statistics, the UAE’s average weekly working hours are surpassed only by Bhutan. Other countries with high average working hours include Lesotho, Congo, and Qatar, completing the top five.
Despite the extensive working hours, UAE residents make time for leisure activities. The study revealed that 97% of residents engage in entertainment outside their homes at least once a month. Dining out is particularly popular, with 70% of people in the UAE enjoying meals at restaurants weekly.
Home-based entertainment also plays a significant role in the lives of UAE residents. The report notes that 83% of residents watch movies and TV shows from home every week. Additionally, 68% prefer watching live sports at home, valuing the convenience and comfort over attending events in person.
These findings demonstrate that while UAE residents are among the hardest working globally, they also ensure a balance by prioritizing relaxation and enjoyment.
