Guinness World Records held a special event this week to recognize the achievements of companies involved in the construction of the New Delta Agricultural Wastewater Treatment, Recycling, and Reuse Plant, which has secured four world records.
The facility, sprawling over 320,600 square meters, boasts the largest surface area and capacity as of July 26, 2023, with a production rate of 86.8 cubic meters per second. Additionally, it holds records for the largest epoxy coating, spanning 520,339 square meters, and operates the largest sludge treatment plant, capable of handling 670.01 kilograms.
Developed through a collaborative effort among Metito, Orascom Construction, The Arab Contractors, and Hassan Allam Construction, the plant was executed under the oversight of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority.
With a daily output of 7.5 million cubic meters of treated water, the plant aims to irrigate 1.2 million acres of land in the New Delta region of the Western Desert. Beyond agricultural benefits, it promises to mitigate pollution in Lake Marriout and along the Mediterranean coasts, while also reducing the risk of land subsidence in Beheira governorate.
