Egyptian rapper Wegz has declined to take part in a forthcoming Pepsi commercial as a gesture of solidarity with ongoing boycott campaigns.
According to sources cited by the website, Wegz’s decision stemmed from a desire to honor the boycott efforts against the company, which have been launched in support of Palestine due to Pepsi’s perceived backing of Israel and its military actions.
The participation of other public figures in the advertisement, including singer Amr Diab, footballer Mohamed Salah, artist Ahmed al-Sakka, actor Karim Mahmoud Abdel-Aziz, singer Nawal al-Zoghbi, Sami al-Jaber, and Roberto Carlos, drew criticism on social media platforms from users who viewed it as contradictory to the boycott movement’s objectives.
