Abu Dhabi has announced the commencement of the grazing season from May 15th, extending until October 15th, as part of its initiatives to manage grazing activities. These mandates aim to foster vegetation recovery, bolster biodiversity, and encourage sustainable practices.
Promoting Sustainability through Grazing Mandates
The designated grazing period is intended to allow pastures the opportunity for natural replenishment, ensuring their sustainability for future generations. This announcement aligns with the Executive Regulations of Law No. (11) of 2020, governing grazing regulation in Abu Dhabi. Issued by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), under the guidance of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region and Chairman of the Board of Directors of EAD, the regulations empower EAD as the authority for environmental affairs in the emirate.
Regulation and Implementation by EAD
Furthermore, EAD is tasked with implementing these regulations to safeguard natural pastures and encourage sustainable traditional practices. In collaboration with relevant authorities. The legislation aims to protect designated areas and ecologically sensitive habitats.
Obtaining Grazing Licenses
To regulate grazing activities effectively, EAD is issuing licenses to Emirati livestock owners and breeders. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid livestock inventory certificate. Approved by the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA).
