Egypt News: The Egyptian Interior Ministry reported on Monday that a violent confrontation between police forces and a notorious gang in Assiut, Upper Egypt, led to the deaths of eight dangerous criminals. During the exchange of gunfire, a police officer was also injured.
Criminal Activities Uncovered
According to investigations, the gang was involved in a wide range of illegal activities, including drug trafficking, the illegal possession of weapons and ammunition, and causing fear among residents in the Sahel Selem area of Assiut. The security services had been closely monitoring the group for some time.
Gang Leader and Criminal Background
The criminal group was led by Mohamed Mahsoub Ibrahim Ahmed, a man with an extensive criminal record. He is accused of 44 felonies and has been sentenced to a total of 191 years in prison, including life sentences.
Other Members and Their Sentences
The other members of the gang were also wanted criminals, with several facing prior convictions. Some of them had been sentenced to life imprisonment, while one had been handed a sentence totaling 108 years in prison.
The police operation was a significant blow to the criminal network in the region.
